Moore: Need to hold DOJ ‘accountable’

According to one of the latest “Twitter Files” threads on the social media platform, the FBI paid $3 million to Twitter staffers for so called “law-enforcement related projects” that included suppressing reports about Hunter Biden’s laptop.

According to an email published by journalist Michael Shellenberger, Twitter’s Safety, Content & Law Enforcement (SCALE) put together a “reimbursement program” that paid staffers for hours of “processing requests from the FBI.”

Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) thinks this is more evidence that Congress needs to hold the FBI, the Department of Justice, and the intelligence community “accountable.”

During a recent appearance on Newsmax TV, Moore discussed ways the new Republican Congress can reform those government agencies.

“If we’re going to fix this problem, we got to get ‘vox populi, voice of the people,’ back to the people and take it away from the swamp in D.C.,” Moore said, “(We will do that) with the purse strings and with oversight.”

The congressman said his constituents are outraged over the recent revelations about the FBI and the Justice Department.

“When I do my town halls,” he said, “you talk to these American citizens who are concerned about the weaponization of the FBI, and you find out now that $3 million of the taxpayer money was sent to Twitter from the FBI to quiet certain stories about certain candidates, while they try to expose other candidates, and nonstop investigations about President Trump. Since when do we have a government agency that’s a hundred years old now that thinks they know better … what our leader and who our president should be than the American people themselves?”

Moore said it’s time to rein in the abuses of these areas of government.

“The arrogance coming out of the Department of Justice, the FBI, those agencies, that’s one of the things we’ve got to hold people accountable for in those agencies,” he said. “We talk about draining the swamp … that’s where we need to pull the plug and start looking.”

The lawmaker also expressed frustration at the Republican Senate leadership for passing the omnibus spending package last year before the new Congress was sworn in.

“It’s very unfortunate that McConnell left us in this position going forward for the next few months where we don’t actually have control of the budget,” he said. “But we can cut the budget of those agencies that are out of control, and give the voice, once again, back to the taxpayers and to the American people.”
