U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) last week introduced the “Defund Federal Vaccine Mandates Act,” which would effectively prohibit the use of executive branch funds to enforce President Joe Biden’s vaccine decrees.
The one-sentence bill states, “No Federal funds may be used to establish, implement, or enforce any vaccine mandate.”
In announcing the legislation, Brooks expressed his desire to have members of Congress “be put on record” regarding their stance on vaccine mandates. He further stated that he refused to “idly sit by as people lose their jobs and America becomes a scene straight out of 1984,” referring to the George Orwell-authored dystopian novel.
During a Tuesday interview with Huntsville radio host Michael Yaffee on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program,” Brooks advocated for the bill as a measure to prevent the executive branch from enforcing the president’s mandates.
“We have a number of things that we’re doing with respect to the Biden mandates,” advised Brooks. “One of those things is a bill that denies the funding that is necessary for the Biden administration to do anything with the mandates. The only way the executive branch can force these things down our throats is for executive branch employees to do things to the American people who refuse to abide by the dictatorial nature of these mandates. If they have no funding, they have no employees that can do that.”
He added, “This particular piece of legislation would say that none of the funding that the executive branch has can be used for enforcing any of these mandates.”
The North Alabama congressman indicated that Republicans were supportive of his efforts while acknowledging that Democrats control both Congress and the White House. He stated that the Democrats “are all for this dictatorial conduct.”
“I believe it’s unconstitutional,” proclaimed Brooks. “I don’t know anything in the United States Constitution that empowers the federal government to force medical treatments on citizens. Think about that. This is where the federal government is intervening between a patient and a doctor and telling the patient and the doctor what treatment they have to take regardless of the risks of loss of life or some kind of disability resulting from that treatment. That’s wrong.”
Brooks detailed language enshrined within the Declaration of Independence which guarantees an individual’s right to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” which the congressman asserted Biden’s vaccine mandates stood in conflict with.
“Gosh, what is more important to one’s life than having to make a choice between two bad options? Taking a vaccine on one hand that has been known to kill thousands of Americans and resulted in varying degrees of disabilities for the Americans who have taken that vaccine – that’s a bad choice,” declared Brooks.
He added, “But another bad choice is not taking the vaccine where now you’re subjecting yourself to a higher risk of catching COVID-19 with the deaths associated with that and also the disabilities associated with that. The Chinese Communist Party has given us two bad options.”
