Mo Brooks: ‘But for Mo Brooks, Space Command would not have been at Redstone Arsenal’

On Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Brian Babin (R-Texas) endorsed U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) for Senate. Babin currently represents Johnson Space Center in Houston. If Republicans take back the House in this year’s midterm election, Babin will most likely chair the House space funding subcommittee.

Brooks and Babin toured the Marshall Space Flight Center and Redstone Arsenal Monday afternoon. They were also briefed on the first Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.

During a press conference at the AC Marriott hotel in downtown Huntsville, Brooks took the opportunity to claim some credit for helping bring the U.S. Space Command to Redstone Arsenal.

“There are a number of people that you could say ‘but for that person, Space Command would not be a Redstone Arsenal.’ Mo Brooks is one of those people,” he said. “But for Mo Brooks, Space Command would not have been at Redstone Arsenal. I want to emphasize though that it’s a team effort. There are multiple people that you could say that about.”

Babin said he doesn’t believe there would be a change to the decision on bringing Space Command to Huntsville and acknowledged that Brooks would fight against that possibility.

“I can assure you that from what I know about this man,” he said looking toward Brooks, “having worked with him, that he would, he would go the whole hog to make sure that didn’t happen.”

Brooks also bragged about the growth of his district during his time as its representative.

“There is no part to the state of Alabama during my tenure as a United States congressman,” Brooks explained, “that has enjoyed more economic prosperity, more job creation, more higher paying jobs than the district that has been represented by myself since January of 2011.”

Babin said he has enjoyed working with Brooks in Congress and believes the Huntsville congressman will make an excellent senator for Alabama.

“He has taken extremely good care, I think, of Marshall Space Flight Center,” Babin continued, “and I really admire him. He’s a guy I think as we say in east Texas you can ride the river with…If things work out like we hope they will, I think as a senator from the great state of Alabama, he’s going to fill the shoes here that I think he will be able to do, and I appreciate all he has done in the past and have really enjoyed working with him.”
