Tuesday, Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Mike Durant released a television advertisement centered around the controversial issue of election integrity and the 2020 presidential election.
In the 30-second spot, Durant repeats his past assertion that the election was “robbed” and suggests that Democrats had “stacked the deck” against former President Donald Trump.
“The American people were robbed in 2020. Democrats changed the rules,” Durant says in the ad. “The media covered up Hunter Biden’s laptop, and they stacked the deck against President Trump from the start. I never would have voted to certify that election, and until we have election integrity, the left will continue to cheat. They gave us open borders, rising inflation and assault our way of life. We need a senator who is tough enough to fight back.”
Watch:
The issue of election integrity quickly became a point of contention in the race to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Tuscaloosa) after Trump revoked his endorsement of U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) in March, claiming that the congressman had not sufficiently scrutinized the 2020 general election.
In a statement announcing his campaign’s TV ad release, Durant took aim at GOP primary rival Katie Britt by questioning her stance surrounding the issue.
“The American people were robbed in 2020,” he stated. “Establishment Republicans turned their back on President Trump, voted to certify the 2020 election, and gave Joe Biden the White House. Alabama deserves another pro-Trump Senator who is tough enough to fight back. I would have never voted to certify that election, but Katie Boyd Britt refuses to say the same. Elections are the backbone of our Democracy. If Katie Boyd Britt can’t muster the courage to stand up to the swamp on this key issue – Alabama can’t trust who she will represent in the Senate.”
Britt has gone on the record throughout the race calling for a “nationwide forensic audit” in order to “get to the bottom” of what occurred in the last presidential election.
