BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Men’s Journal, a men’s fitness and lifestyle magazine has named Alabama-based Iron Tribe Fitness’s program one of the best workouts in the country.
“We scoured the country and talked to dozens of fitness leaders, gym owners, and top trainers to find the most innovative gym classes in America,” Men’s Journal said. “Whether you want outdoor functional fitness, a tech-driven boot camp that monitors your every move, or a high-intensity cardio routine you can do anywhere, we have your new favorite workout.”
Iron Tribe Fitness was one of the fastest-growing companies in the country last year, expanding an amazing 790 percent in the past three years.
Iron Tribe Fitness began in a two-car garage in Birmingham in October of 2008. Founder Forrest Walden, his wife, and two of their friends began searching for a way to stay in shape, in spite of their busy schedules.
They weren’t fans of “big-box” gyms, so they developed their own fitness and nutrition program.
Needless to say, their idea caught fire.
Now there are more than 50 locations running or in development across the country.
Men’s Journal gave an example of the type of workout you might see at one of Iron Tribe Fitness’s growing number of locations.
20 kettlebell swings
20 kettlebell squat jumps
3×5 barbell deadlifts
3×5 barbell squats
1 minute plate push
Complete two rounds
No two workout days are the same at Iron Tribe Fitness, so you’ll never get bored in the group class atmosphere, and the owners have even used their success as a ministry, raising money to build over 100 clean water wells in Africa and India.
“God has truly blessed us and we hope that we can connect that blessing with His purpose, by redistributing it from Birmingham to as many communities as we possibly can worldwide,” Iron Tribe Fitness COO Jim Cavale told Yellowhammer last year.
