Great Southern Wood Preserving has issued a press release stating that Charles D. McCrary, former president, chief executive officer, and chairman of the board of Alabama Power Company, has been elected to the board of directors of Great Southern Wood Holdings, Inc.
“Charles has had an outstanding record of accomplishment throughout his career and will bring a high level of knowledge and experience to our board,” said Jimmy Rane, founder, president and CEO of Great Southern Wood Holdings, Inc. “Charles is well-respected both as a corporate leader and a community leader, and his unique experience and insight will be extremely valuable as our company moves toward its half-century mark.”
McCrary received a B.S. degree from Auburn University and serves on the Auburn University Board of Trustees. The Charles D. McCrary Institute for Critical Infrastructure Protection and Cyber Systems, named in his honor and housed at Auburn, focuses on interdisciplinary research and advanced technologies to improve the security and operations of our nation’s infrastructure while valuing natural resources and conservation.
McCrary also earned a J.D. from Birmingham School of Law. He is a member of the Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame and has been named to the Alabama Academy of Honor.
McCrary has been engaged in civic organizations across Alabama. He has served as chairman of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama and on the boards of Regions Financial Corporation, Mercedes-Benz US International, the Protective Life Corporation, the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation and Southern Research Institute. He’s also served on the boards of the Children First Foundation, the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Alabama Archives and History Foundation, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the Alabama Historical Radio Society.
