MOBILE, Ala. — In addition to having the country’s first Mardi Gras celebration, Mobile is also one of the best. The city’s Fat Tuesday parades have become well known as the more family-friendly option, and now one of Hollywood’s biggest stars is taking part in the revelry.
Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey was spotted around Mobile the last few days, causing a social media rumor-fest that was finally confirmed by CBS affiliate WKRG Tuesday.

According to the news station, McConaughey was in nearby Jones County, Mississippi filming “The Free State of Jones,” in which he plays a Confederate deserter who leads a band of men during the Civil War.
McConaughey stayed in the Fort Conde Inn during his trip to Mobile, where he took at least two pictures with Inn employees who later posted them on Facebook, along with a note calling him “an amazing and classy individual.”
While the Inn can’t confirm that McConaughey is still in town, it couldn’t hurt to hit Government Street for a parade, catch a few beads, eat a few Moon Pies, and keep an eye out for one of the biggest movie stars in the world!
