Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell’s heroic story is being told to audiences in theaters all across the country through the movie Lone Survivor. His book by the same name became a New York Times bestseller. And in just a few weeks, Alabamians will have the opportunity to hear him tell his story in person.

Luttrell will be the featured speaker for the 14th annual Jimmy Rane Charity Golf Tournament on May 15 and 16 in Montgomery. Proceeds go to help the foundation award scholarships to deserving students.

Lone Survivor is Luttrell’s courageous account of Operation Redwing, the 2005 military mission in the mountainous area between Afghanistan and Pakistan that became the deadliest-ever operation by America’s elite Navy SEAL forces. Luttrell and three other SEALs found themselves face to face with more than 100 Taliban soldiers and only Luttrell lived to tell the story.

“Marcus Luttrell’s story is one of courage, sacrifice and patriotism,” said Jimmy Rane, founder of Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc., based in Abbeville, Ala. Rane, also well-known as “Yella Fella,” established the Foundation a decade and a half ago. “We are so honored to have Marcus join us this year as we raise funds to help shape the lives of young men and women through college scholarships.”

The golf tournament will be played the next day at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Capitol Hill Course in Prattville. The event traditionally attracts well-known coaches and athletes from all over the country.
