Justice Mitchell featured in ‘Daniel Dilemma’ series taught by Pastor Hodges

Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell was featured in an episode of “The Daniel Dilemma” taught by Pastor Chris Hodges of Church of the Highlands, broadcast on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.

The series looks at the life of the prophet Daniel and tackles an issue many Christians currently face: How believers can stay close to God and not cave to the cultural compromise of today’s society.

Hodges, founding and senior pastor of Church of the Highlands, encourages believers to look at Daniel as an example of how to persevere and maintain Biblical standards in a hostile culture.

Mitchell was elected to the Alabama Supreme Court in 2018. Prior to serving on the Supreme Court, he was an attorney and rated as one of the top litigators in the United States and Alabama.

He is featured in the series as an example of a “Modern Day Daniel Story.”

In the episode, Mitchell explained how he has at times been called to speak out about something in the law that may be wrong or has not been adequately addressed.

“If I see something that needs to be pointed out, I’ll say something,” he said.

A number of Mitchell’s judicial opinions have garnered national attention, including his call to overturn Roe v. Wade well before the Dobbs case was decided, his strong stands for law enforcement, and his criticism of using preferred gender pronouns in legal briefings.

He wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal in May speaking out against the “diversity, equity and inclusion” agenda and its encroachment into the legal profession.

“We’re living in a really difficult moment in America. Culture is shifting, and it’s not clear how things are going, where things are going,” Mitchell said. “And I know for a lot of Christians that can be very disconcerting.

“But I think the important thing is that we keep our eyes on the Lord, that we understand that He is sovereign and that we can rely fully on Him to protect us and lead us and guide us.”

Mitchell encouraged viewers to lean forward and “be responsive to the way that God is leading you, even when it’s scary.” He also called viewers to serve God honorably wherever He has placed them.

“Jay is one of the premiere leaders in Alabama,” Hodges told Yellowhammer News.

“He and his wife Elizabeth are close friends, and they and their family have been part of our church for over 20 years. I can’t think of a better person than Jay to represent the importance of boldness and character in leadership, and I’m honored to have him participate in this series.”
