As if losing to Tennessee for the first time in 15 years wasn’t bad enough for Alabama fans, country music star Morgan Wallen decided to pile on with a new track aimed at the Tide.
While a demo to his new track “Tennessee Fan” was introduced shortly after the Volunteers defeated Bama in October, Wallen has officially released the single as part of a “sampler pack” of new music.
The song opens with Wallen, a native of Sneedville, Tenn., saying Alabama “beat(s) us every damn year.” After Bama wins yet another game against the Vols, the song has Wallen heading to a Tuscaloosa bar where he meets “a girl with a houndstooth print of her (sorority) chapter on her shirt.”
He ends up bringing the Tide fan “back with me across the Vol state line.”
Chorus as follows:
Guess the joke’s on Alabama
‘Cause they lost big this time
I got the number one pick, blonde hair, red lips
Brought her over to the other side
A little deep south Delta Gamma
Done found a Smoky Mountain man
Yeah, she was raised Roll Tide ’til the day she died
But ever since that night, she’s been a Tennessee fan
Wallen dropped a lyric video for his fans, which features former Alabama defensive back Trevon Diggs taking a fumble 99 yards for a touchdown in the 2019 matchup. As the song progresses in favor of Tennessee, the video transitions to the final moments of this year’s game.
Listen:
In October 2020, Wallen was disinvited to perform on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” after videos surfaced of him partying in Tuscaloosa, in violation of COVID-19 restrictions.
The “Whiskey Glasses” singer would later be invited once more to “SNL,” where he performed a skit making fun of his non-adherence to pandemic protocols.
