Governor Kay Ivey on Friday released a video strongly calling on Alabamians to wear masks and do their individual parts in combatting the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 35-second spot features Ivey speaking directly into the camera from her office in the Alabama State Capitol.

“Today we are at war with an invisible enemy,” she said to open the spot.

“Not that long ago, families across Alabama helped America turn the tide in World War II,” the governor continued. “Some joined the front lines in combat, while others led the fight on the home front. Those sacrifices helped our nation win the war and go on to define the Greatest Generation.”

Ivey added, “Now, we must answer today’s call. By comparison, our sacrifice is small. But each of us can do our part.”

“Mask up, Alabama!” she concluded.

Alabama continues to operate under a statewide mask order put in place by the governor and State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris. That order is set to expire on August 31.
