Isaac Okoro hires agents, expected to be top-10 pick in NBA draft

Auburn basketball standout Isaac Okoro signed with two agencies this week, the next step in what observers expect will culminate in a top-10 selection in this year’s NBA draft.

Earlier in the year, Okoro took the first step of preliminarily declaring his intention to enter the NBA draft. He still has not yet taken the final step to fully void his chance to return to Auburn, but the hiring of an agent makes that a mere formality.

A mock draft published by CBS Sports this week has Okoro projected to be the fifth player taken overall, going to the Atlanta Hawks.

Another common spot for Okoro, in the opinion of many analysts, is the Washington Wizards with the ninth overall pick.

The Georgia native received many plaudits for his freshman year at Auburn, including the All-SEC Freshman team and the All-SEC defensive team.

The two agencies Okoro signed with this week are LifeStyle Sports Agency and Young Money Sports, which is partially owned by rapper Lil Wayne. The two groups have announced a partnership this week. Lifestyle is owned in part by Omar Cooper, the father of Okoro’s high school teammate Sharife Cooper, who has signed to play with Auburn next year.

The timing of the NBA draft is currently undecided, because the order of the picks is determined in part by the win/loss records of the teams in the league, and the season is on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.
