Huntsville police officers collect school supplies for local students in need

The Huntsville Police Department continues to go above and beyond in serving its local community in North Alabama.

WAAY this week reported that Huntsville PD officers collected donated school supplies from members of the community over the course of a month or so, including “backpacks, colored pencils, notebooks and much more.”

On Tuesday, Huntsville City Schools Superintendent Christie Finley received the supplies from the department.

The supplies will now be distributed to Huntsville students in need.

“Because of this donation, we know that our students will be prepared for the next level of learning,” Finley said, per WHNT.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the donation from Huntsville PD this year comes at an especially impactful time for many families in the area.

“It was especially important this year to have that community partnership and support the children in our community,” Huntsville PD Sgt. Grady Thigpen told WHNT. “The community has done an outstanding job, and we want to extend our appreciation.”
