Louisiana State Senator Elbert Guillory gained national recognition earlier this year when he released a stirring video announcing his switch from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party and calling on other black elected officials and citizens to join him.
He’s back again with a video decrying what he refers to as the “Democrat plantation” and warning Americans that Democratic Party policies are bankrupting the country. “Was it God’s plan that we would merely trade one plantation for another?” Guillory asks. “Liberalism has nearly destroyed black America.”
Guillory says he believes taxing the rich will only lead to more poverty for most Americans, while only a select few get wealthy.
Kings have always maintained their power by deceiving the poor…The poor cry out, ‘how will we eat,’ and the king’s solution is always the same: ‘let us tax the rich.’ The rich get poorer and the poor get poorer… Nothing spreads true wealth like competition. These ideas created the wealthiest society the world has ever known… Only capitalism can provide the upward mobility for the meekest among us to break the shackles of poverty and rise into the middle class… Republicans have always been the champions of capitalism, but in recent history we’ve done a terrible job of articulating these values to a new audience.
But Sen. Guillory does not place all the blame on Democrats. He also believes the Republican Party is to blame because they have conceded the black vote for decades and failed to effectively communicate their values to minority voters.
Black Americans know very little about the Republican Party… The Republican Party has conceded the black vote for long enough. Currently, over 90% of black Americans vote exclusively for Democrats, in spite of the fact that the values of the Republican Party far better represent the values of the black community… Family, prayer, less taxes, better schools, empowering small businesses, gun ownership.
Guillory announces in the video that he has been named honorary chairman of the Free at Last PAC, an organization he hopes will help bridge the gap between the Republican Party and the black community. The organization also plans to actively recruit black Republicans to run for highest office around the country.
“The Free At Last PAC will reach into the black community and articulate those values that fuel the American Dream,” Guillory said. “We will be silent no more.”
