Got $25k+ laying around? Give an Auburn fan the greatest Christmas gift ever

Chris Davis helmet

Auburn fans, check your savings account. Monday (Oct. 6) is the first day you’ll have chance to start bidding for a piece of history: Chris Davis’ helmet from the 2013 Iron Bowl.

Auburn alumnus Jimmy Brandt has put the helmet up for auction after acquiring several items worn by Davis during the miraculous 109-yard dash. From the looks of it, that stands to be a smart wager.

Goldin Auctions founder Ken Goldin explained in an ESPN interview that the helmet’s bidding would start at “a modest opening bid of $5,000.”

He continues, “We’re expecting anywhere between $25,000 to even approaching six figures.”

Even if the helmet sells for a mere $25,000, that is $229.36 per yard. For a piece of protective gear originally priced at around $425, or roughly two yards, that’s not too shabby.

For anyone questioning the legitimacy of the item, Goldin insists they’ve done their research. The helmet was worn throughout the season, and bears the final BCS Championship decal to adorn an NCAA helmet. Squelching all doubts is Davis’ own autograph along with his inscription of, “Game used Iron Bowl 2013!!!”

Contenders for the helmet will have the chance to place bids at this listing through November 1. Judging by initial reactions, there’s a good chance bidding will run up until the very last second.
