INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — An Alabama man and his wife were filled with the spirit in Indianapolis last week, but not the kind of spirit expected to consume a former pastor. Michael Trosclair and Shari Treba were arrested for neglect of a dependent in a situation that endangers the dependent and public intoxication after they were seen drunk and smoking outside a bar with their young baby.
A sworn statement submitted by detectives on the scene at the Wild Beaver Saloon reveals that Treba was seen drinking and smoking while breastfeeding her baby. “Partying was more important than their child,” the detective said.
Police reported that Treba’s “breath and person” reeked of alcohol, and witnesses stated she repeatedly offered sex to patrons who would get her another beer. She also allegedly left her child in a stroller chained outside the bar to go inside and buy more drinks. At the time of arrest, her BAC was registered at 0.193.
Trosclair’s LinkedIn profile shows that he was the former senior pastor at a Theodore Church and is currently the regional vice president of Primerica in Mobile. According to reports, Trosclair was also heavily intoxicated. He became angry when his wife was confronted by police, and he escalated the situation. “I put him in cuffs for fear he may fight us with the baby right there,” the detective said.
“Mr. Trosclair was too intoxicated to understand the situation his own child was in when the mother, Ms. Tremba, starts to breastfeed the child,” another detective wrote. “It also shows a lack of care for the child and its welfare while in his and Ms. Tremba’s care.”
Medics examined the baby, and authorities called Child Protective Services and a child abuse investigator to further investigate the incident. Both were booked at the Marion County Jail 1 in Indianapolis, but have since been released.
