Examining statewide candidates’ Q4 fundraising numbers

As candidates are set to enter the five-month stretch into the May 24, 2022, primary election, fourth quarter fundraising numbers could provide a glimpse into each campaign’s positioning in their respected races.

While half of the candidates in Alabama’s statewide races are presently unopposed, contested candidates continue their attempts to bolster their campaigns’ financial standing.

Governor

Gov. Kay Ivey holds the strongest financial standing of any statewide candidate this election cycle. The governor hauled in $415,490 during the month of December, bringing her ending cash balance to $2,687,257.

Opelika Rev. Dean Odle recorded $9,890 in cash receipts last month. His ending balance sits at $12,544.

State Auditor Jim Zeigler received $3,125 in December cash receipts, which took his cash-on-hand balance to $22,356.

Businessman Lew Burdette, who recently launched his bid for governor, recorded $45,100 in cash donations last month. His ending cash balance is $42,416.

Businessman Tim James, who is set to kickoff his gubernatorial campaign this week, received $26,600 in cash receipts and loaned his campaign $500,000. His ending cash-on-hand sits at $1,061,245.

Lieutenant Governor

Incumbent Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth, who is presently unopposed in his bid for a second term, received $139,625 during the month of December. His ending cash balance is $1,406,928.

Attorney General

Attorney General Steve Marshall, who is also running for a second term unopposed, raised $25,500 last month, which brought is cash balance to $615,125.

Secretary of State

State Rep. Wes Allen (R-Troy) received $40,485 in cash receipts, bringing his ending balance to $139,115.

Conservative activist and Tennessee Valley Republican Club chairman Chris Horn raised $10,100 last month. His ending cash-on-hand sits at $15,257.

Former Alabama elections administrator Ed Packard, who launched his bid for secretary of state in late December, raised $476. His ending balance is $810.

State Treasurer

The former and now-appointed State Treasurer Young Boozer recorded $19,950 in December receipts, which brought his ending cash total to $155,230.

State Auditor

State Rep. Andrew Sorrell (R-Muscle Shoals) hauled in $24,017 last month, bringing his overall cash-on-hand to $323,138.

Former State Sen. Rusty Glover (R-Semmes) received $250 in cash donations. His ending balance sits at $15,406.

Jefferson County pastor and conservative activist Stan Cooke raised $10,500 in December, which took his ending balance to $34,670.

Florence attorney Brent Woodall recorded $10,400 in cash contributions. His ending total is $11,040.

Agriculture and Industries Commissioner

Incumbent Agriculture and Industries Commissioner Rick Pate remains unopposed in his candidacy for a second term. His December cash receipts totaled $8,000, bringing his ending cash-on-hand to $202,542.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Place 2

Kelli Wise’s campaign received $58,783 in cash contributions, taking her ending balance to $142,517.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Place 5

Greg Cook hauled in $25,283 during the month of December. He currently holds $435,455 cash-on-hand.

Calhoun County Circuit Judge Debra Jones recorded $21,330 in cash receipts. Her ending cash balance is $53,385.

Public Service Commissioner

Current officeholder Jeremy Oden recorded $7,500 in December cash contributions. His overall balance is $3,587.

Tallassee Mayor John Hammock received $1,000 in cash donations last month, which brought his ending balance to $39,146.

Stephen McLamb raised $987 last month and holds an overall cash balance of $2,078.
