Examining Q3 candidate fundraising for U.S. Senate, Fifth Congressional District races

With the third quarter officially in the books, candidates seeking election to federal office are looking to bolster their campaigns by posting strong fundraising numbers headed into the latter portion of the year.

Presently, the only contested federal races are the Republican primary elections for the U.S. Senate and Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District.

Alabama’s Senate seat is becoming vacant as longtime U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) is retiring at his term’s end. The North Alabama congressional seat is open due to current officeholder U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Hunstville) seeking election to the upper chamber.

U.S. Senate

Former Business Council of Alabama (BCA) president and CEO Katie Britt raised $1,532,403 and recorded $394,686 in expenditures. Her ending cash-on-hand sits at $3,335,922.

Congressman Brooks recorded $669,909 in contributions and $524,449 in expenditures. His campaign balance currently sits at $1,857,410.

Former Trump-appointed U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia Lynda Blanchard raised $1,958 last quarter and recorded $692,645 in expenditures. Her overall campaign balance is currently $4,512,676.

Businesswoman Jessica Taylor raised $150,848 in contributions, recorded $82,509 in disbursements, bringing her cash-on-hand to $68,339.

Fifth Congressional District

Casey Wardynski, former Trump-era assistant secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, raised $47,544 in contributions, with the candidate lending his campaign $100,000. He recorded $70,725 in expenditures and holds $173,891 cash-on-hand.

Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong recorded $100,875 in contributions and $107,350 in expenditures. His ending campaign balance sits at $292,543.

Economic developer John Roberts raised $97,359 in contributions and lent his campaign $20,000. He recorded $32,339 in expenditures which brings his ending cash-on-hand to $85,019.

Huntsville City Schools teacher Andy Blalock reported $10,721 in contributions and $9,551 in expenditures. His campaign balance currently sits at $3,393.
