The Southeastern Conference on Tuesday released the winners of its annual awards, as well as the members of the respective All-SEC teams, for the 2020 football season.
Following their historic undefeated regular season and SEC Championship Game victory, it came as no surprise that the University of Alabama Crimson Tide dominated the honors, taking home six of the individual awards.
Senior wide receiver DeVonta Smith was named offensive player of the year; junior cornerback Patrick Surtain II was selected as defensive player of the year; junior quarterback Mac Jones was named scholar-athlete of the year; senior center Landon Dickerson and senior offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood were named the co-winners of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy; and Nick Saban was picked as SEC coach of the year.
Additionally, Auburn Tigers running back Tank Bigsby was named the co-SEC freshman of the year, sharing the award with Missouri’s Connor Bazelak.
The results stemmed from a vote by the conference’s coaches. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes.
Looking at the All-SEC First Team, the Tide once again led the way with nine total selections:
Alex Leatherwood, OL
Deonte Brown, OL
Landon Dickerson, C
DeVonta Smith, WR
Najee Harris, RB
Mac Jones, QB
Christian Barmore, DL
Dylan Moses, LB
Patrick Surtain II, DB
Auburn did not have a first team honoree but did land two players on the second team: Big Kat Bryant (DL) and Anders Carlson (PK).
Bama players on the second team were Christopher Allen (LB), Malachi Moore (DB) and Jaylen Waddle (RS), who only played in four games this season before being injured on the opening kickoff at Tennessee.
Additionally, the Tide’s Will Anderson Jr. (LB) and Javion Cohen (OL) were freshman All-SEC choices, along with Moore, who landed an additional spot on the freshman squad for his stellar play.
Bigsby and Colby Wooden (DL) were named to the freshman All-SEC team for Auburn.
This marks the 13th-consecutive season that Saban’s Alabama has led the conference in total All-SEC picks.
