WASHINGTON – Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Mobile, got a rousing endorsement on Fox News Channel on Thursday night from Daily Caller editor in chief Tucker Carlson.
On Fox News’s “Special Report,” host Bret Baier said that Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, had been an impediment to budget conference committees in the past because he feared the Republican conferees would cave and produce an unfavorable budget that would pass the U.S. Senate.
But this time, with the two lead Republicans being Sen. Sessions and Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., Carlson says conservatives have a reason to be optimistic.
“Well, one thing you can’t say about Jeff Sessions is that he’s a liberal accommodationist,” Carlson said emphatically. “And a lot of this has been driven, as you know, by the grassroots in the Republican Party who look at the leadership with disdain and distrust. They don’t think they’re as conservative as they are. They are probably right. You can’t say that about Jeff Sessions. You’re not going to look at Jeff Sessions and say, ‘You know what, he’s just a creature of Washington.’ That’s just not true. So, if you get to the point where you’re saying that — this is kind of a reality check for anyone watching — if you get to the point where you say ‘Jeff Sessions is a liberal,’ you’ve gone off the rails. You’ve lost touched with reality because he’s just not.”
