The Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives has put forward legislation that they say will help lower energy costs in America.
The Lower Energy Costs Act aims to lower energy costs by reducing red tape in the permitting process while also boosting U.S. liquified natural gas.
U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) promoted the bill this week during a speech on the floor of the House.
“I’ve spent the last two years working with the other side of the aisle watching them systematically take this country apart when it comes to our national resources and enough is enough,” Carl said. “You want me to prove it? We just won the House, we have the majority now, we have a chance to change what’s going on today.”

The congressman said the Democrats and President Joe Biden are directly responsible for the current high energy prices.
“Voters made their voices heard last November when they sent the Republican Congress to put an end to this Democrat anti-American agenda,” he said. “Americans are paying 40% more for their gas since Biden took office, and the Democrats have done nothing but add fuel to the fire to raise that price by shutting down our drilling and shutting down our minds.”
Carl then explained how the GOP is working to fight back against the Democratic agenda on energy.
“The House Republicans this week, we’re moving forward with the Lower Energy Costs Act,” he said. “Two primary objectives here: increase American energy production … to strip away the rules and regulations to make it harder to grow this economy.”
The lawmaker said he’s “especially proud” of one part of the proposed legislation.
“The unleashing America Act is included in this package,” he said. “My bill fights back (against) the Biden’s administration’s war on domestic energy production by mandating that oil and gas leases sell each year in the Gulf of Mexico and off the coast of Alaska.”
Carl said he believes this law will help make America more energy independent.
“This bill will help end our reliance on these foreign countries, these foreign communist countries,” he said. “So we need to reflect on that when as vote. If you support the Communist Party vote no on this bill. If you support American jobs, if you support American families vote yes on HR 1.”
