Mobile operator and technology company C Spire has announced its acquisition of Troy Cablevision, Inc., paving the way for the company to expand broadband access to consumers and businesses of Alabama’s Wiregrass region.
The definitive agreement to acquire the South Alabama services provider includes Union Springs Telephone Company, Inc. The transaction is pending regulatory approval.
According to the announcement, the move will serve to expedite C Spire’s plans to expand fiber-based services throughout the Yellowhammer State, providing ultra-fast broadband internet access.
C Spire chief executive officer Hu Meena stated that his company expects an efficient transition for current Troy Cablevision customers. Additionally, he noted that no layoffs are expected as a result of the transaction due to C Spire’s intended regional growth.
“Following up on our previously announced commitment to invest approximately $500 million in fiber based network deployment and enhancements throughout Alabama, we are extremely excited to deepen our Alabama roots with this transaction by providing services to the Wiregrass,” said Meena.
He added, “It also shows our commitment to our Alabama expansion by positioning us to leverage the relationship between the talented, dedicated team and their many long-term customers. The high quality, fiber optic-based infrastructure positions us very effectively to deliver broadband fiber services throughout the state.”
Troy Cablevision has served the Wiregrass for nearly four decades. The company provides cable TV, internet, fiber broadband and numerous other services to its customers. Cablevision’s service area includes Pike, Coffee, Crenshaw and Dale Counties. While headquartered in Troy, the company holds regional offices in Elba, Enterprise, Luverne and Ozark.
Troy Cablevision’s chief financial officer and general manager Jake Cowen said the acquisition will make way for enhanced services to be provided to the region.
“Becoming a part of the C Spire family will allow us to provide further enhanced services to our customers,” said Cowen. “We will remain committed to offering the same hometown service, but with even better technological capabilities to improve quality and variety of services.”
The acquisition comes as C Spire earlier this year announced its intention to heavily invest in broadband expansion throughout the state, bringing high-speed internet access to rural areas of Alabama. The move further solidifies the company’s plan to deliver vital internet services to state residents and businesses.
Broadband accessibility has long been a topic of discussion in the Yellowhammer State. Broadband capability is widely seen as crucial for the state’s further growth and can play an integral role in economic development efforts.
