U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) on Tuesday announced that he had cosponsored a number of bills in the lower chamber of Congress which aim to solidify protections for the unborn.
In announcing Brooks’ legislative action on the issue, his congressional office noted that the North Alabama congressman had signed his name to 10 separate pro-life bills in an effort to “protect America’s unborn babies from the Grim Reaper.”
The bills Brooks cosponsored are as follows:
- HR 2223, Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act
- HR 1080, Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act
- HR 1011, Life at Conception Act
- HR 877, Sanctity of Human Life Act
- HR 619, Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act
- HR 581, Ensuring Accurate and Complete Abortion Data Reporting Act of 2021
- HR 554, SAVE Moms and Babies Act of 2021
- HR 541, Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2021
- HR 243, Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act
- HR 18, No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2021
Brooks slammed Democrats for what he asserted to be their extreme positions on abortion and claimed that in some instances, by way of their support for such measures, had risen to the level of being “pro-infanticide.”
“Socialist Democrats’ radical, pro-abortion position has shifted from ‘safe, legal, and rare’ to, in some places, pro-infanticide,” Brooks proclaimed. “Their extreme position is repulsive and denies science that has confirmed that human life begins at conception. I’m fighting for the unborn in Congress because the unborn can’t fight for themselves.”
He contended that due to the nation lawfully allowing abortions to be performed after 20 weeks of pregnancy, the United States was on par with some of the world’s most oppressive regimes in that respect.
“America is one of only seven countries worldwide that allows abortions after 20 weeks,” added Brooks. “That puts America in the same category as notorious human rights abusers China and North Korea— not where we want to be. It’s time to implement protections for unborn babies in America.”
He pointed to polling data which he said indicated that the Democratic Party’s stance on abortion was out of step with a majority of Americans.
Brooks concluded, “The Socialist Democrats’ radical, anti-life position ignores the will of the American people. According to Marist polling in January 2021, 65% of Americans support the Constitution and states’ rights by allowing individual states to make abortion laws consistent with each state’s values. Further, that same poll reveals that 76% of Americans support significant restrictions on abortion. Further, polls show that 55% of Americans oppose abortion after 5 months and 79% of Americans oppose abortion after 7 months.”
