Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama announces $80 million in November premium discounts

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama on Monday announced that health and dental premiums for most fully insured individual, employer and Medicare plans will be significantly discounted for the month of November.

The company voluntarily took this generous step to help provide some additional relief during these difficult times, recognizing that the COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected Alabamians in myriad ways, including economically.

Blue Cross will discount November health premiums by 20% and November dental premiums by 50%.

“Many of our customers are struggling with the financial impacts of COVID-19,” stated Tim Vines, president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. “We care about our customers and hope these discounted premiums will ease some of the financial burden during these challenging times.”

If customers have both health and dental coverage, they will receive both premium discounts. The discount will be automatically applied to November invoices.

In total, this newly announced premium discount will amount to $80 million BCBS of Alabama is foregoing. This comes in addition to the more than $230 million in support the company has already provided its members, providers and the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
