Birmingham Mayor Woodfin endorses self-avowed Democratic socialist’s Ohio congressional bid

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin on Tuesday tweeted his support for former State Sen. Nina Turner’s (D-OH) bid to represent Ohio’s 11th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Turner was a high-profile supporter of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) presidential bid in 2016 and was a national co-chair of his 2020 presidential campaign. She was offered the vice presidential nomination for the Green Party in 2016 and chaired the Sanders-affiliated “Our Revolution” 501(c)(4) from 2017-2019.

A self-avowed and proud Democratic socialist herself, Turner on Tuesday announced her candidacy to succeed U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH), who has been nominated to join President-elect Joe Biden’s cabinet.

It was under Turner’s leadership that Our Revolution endorsed and actively supported Woodfin’s ultimately successful 2017 mayoral bid in the Magic City, and now he is trying to repay the support.

Turner in 2017 personally visited Birmingham multiple times to campaign for Woodfin.
