Earlier this week, Yellowhammer News Editor J. Pepper Bryars appeared on WYDE’s “The Ford Faction” radio program to discuss the pro-life movement and the battle to defund Planned Parenthood.
“Those of us who are pro-life must ask ourselves this question,” Bryars said. “Do we truly believe abortion is what we say it is … which is the butchering of an innocent, defenseless, unborn person?”
“If the answer to that question is ‘yes,’” he added, “then here is the second question we must ask ourselves: What other issue is more important than stopping that from happening?”
The details:
— The GOP Congress and the Trump White House promised to fully defund Planned Parenthood, but the abortion provider still remains eligible to apply for millions in Medicaid and other federal grants.
— An attempt to attach a rider to the recent $1.3 trillion omnibus bill outlawing such funding failed to gain enough support in the House and Senate.
— Bryars asked, “If abortion is what the GOP says it is, then defunding Planned Parenthood should be the party’s top priority.”

Editor’s note: No federal appropriation specifically designated for Planned Parenthood was included in the $1.3 trillion omnibus bill that recently passed Congress, or in any appropriations bill in recent memory. Instead, the abortion provider has historically relied upon the millions of federal dollars it receives through Medicaid and related grants. Efforts to prevent Planned Parenthood from receiving these dollars have repeatedly failed, but the battle continues.
