It’s a rodeo. Just not a typical one.
The 29th annual Fishing Rodeo, hosted by the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department, has opened registration.
“There’s a lot of kids that, maybe they don’t have access to fishing,” said Public Relations Specialist Ann Bergman. “Maybe they don’t have a fishing rod or reel, so this is something that Evans Realty wanted to give back to the community,”
She also noted how the popularity of the event helps to draw people toward recreation.
“We love the event because we’re trying to promote recreation,” Bergman said. “We’re trying to promote people getting outside, and so it’s really a lovely event, it’s very very popular.”
The May 15 event is for children from 1 to 14 years old. The child or children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Registration is $5 per child.
All registered children will be given free bait and the first 175 to register will be given a free rod and reel.
