Every Wednesday we present “Around the SEC,” with the latest updates on where things stand in the best conference in the land.
With Alabama and LSU off this week and a massive SEC West-deciding matchup looming next week, let’s take a look at some of the other games to watch for this week outside of the Yellowhammer State:
No. 1 Georgia vs. Florida:
As one of the biggest rivalries in college football, the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” in Jacksonville always looms as a huge game on the calendar. Though Georgia has owned the rivalry as of late (the Dawgs have won five of the last six matchups), the Gators are the last team to defeat Georgia in the regular season back in 2020.
Florida has been better than expected so far this season and Georgia is without Brock Bowers. The Dawgs are favored by 14.5 points, which feels a little high.
South Carolina at Texas A&M:
Texas A&M has had a roller-coaster of a year. After being beaten down in Miami, the talk of the town was Jimbo Fisher on the hot seat. Then, three wins in a row had people believing that the Aggies were about to beat Alabama, which of course did not happen.
A&M followed that up with a road loss in Knoxville, and is now in the same spot they were in after week two. This is a must win at home in a game the Aggies are favored by two touchdowns. A loss could mark the final game of the Fisher era in College Station.
No. 21 Tennessee at Kentucky:
Expectations were certainly higher for Tennessee, while Kentucky was having a nice season before back-to-back losses in beatdowns to Georgia and Missouri. Tennessee is favored by 3.5 points in what should be a great Border Battle on ESPN.
