Geotagging is an optional feature on Instagram that allows users to share the location from which their photos are being taken. The location data then gives Instagram the ability to create an interactive world map on which each user’s images are plotted.

It’s a novel feature, but it has also raised some privacy concerns, and even gotten some Instagrammers in serious trouble.

Last year, a Russian soldier posted a seemingly benign group of photos to his Instagram account. Unfortunately for him, his geotagged images revealed he was in Ukraine at a time when Moscow was insisting to the world that it was not covertly operating in the country.

Location data from former Congressman Aaron Schock’s Instagram also revealed that he was jet-setting on private planes owned by some of his political donors, leading to his resignation and an ongoing criminal investigation.

But more often than not, geotagging simply gives Instagram users the ability to map out everywhere they’ve been, creating the opportunity for enjoyable trips down Memory Lane in the future.

Earlier this week, Instagram revealed to Time Magazine the most Instagrammed location in every state.

For many states, these are well-known tourist destinations, like Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Florida, Time Square in New York, and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. For other states, Instagram reveals lesser-known treasures, like the Albuquerque International Ballon Fiesta in New Mexico, or major event sites like Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee. Stadiums also dominate the list, with Churchill Downs, Miller Park and AT&T Stadium leading the way in Kentucky, Wisconsin and Texas, respectively.

With that in mind, it likely comes as no surprise that Bryant-Denny Stadium on campus at the University of Alabama leads the way as the most Instagrammed location in the Yellowhammer State.

In addition to the seven Crimson Tide home games that bring hundreds of thousands of fans into the stadium each season, the bronze statues of each championship-winning coach in front of BDS attract tourists from around the world, and multiple event spaces inside the venue attract visitors throughout the year.
