State law enforcement, the FBI and DEA deployed across Jefferson County this week in a coordinated raid on 14 bingo halls — and it’s likely not going to be the last.
“Allowing illegal activity to operate freely in broad daylight is offensive to the rule of law and we aren’t going to tolerate it,” Attorney General Steve Marshall said. “Gambling is illegal in Alabama, as the Alabama Supreme Court has recently reaffirmed.”
The facilities were shut down this week through temporary restraining orders on roughly 2,400 slot machines, pending further orders from the Jefferson County Circuit Court.
“There will be more to come as we examine all of the evidence we have collected,” Marshall said.
