ALGOP’s Wahl: There’s an agenda to ‘wokify’ our children

Alabama’s Republican Party Chairman believes the trend of public libraries adding explicit LGBTQ+ materials to the children’s sections is just part of the left’s agenda to “indoctrinate” young people in the country.

The Alabama Public Library Service board voted this week to compile a list of books it considered inappropriate for children, which will be posted on their website.

ALGOP Chairman John Wahl, who also sits on the board, led the effort to get that accomplished.

The Alabama Republican Party leader discussed the issue Thursday on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program.”

“To me it’s very simple and very common sense. We do have a duty as a culture, but especially of us who are on the state library board, we have a duty to protect our children and we need to be honest about it,” Wahl said. “There is inappropriate stuff in our libraries. There are people who want to stick their heads in the sand and say there’s not, but there is inappropriate material.”

Some of the measures opponents are claiming this is just banning books, but Wahl argues this is about transparency for concerned parents.

“You will probably not find anyone in this state who supports the First Amendment more than I do,” he said. “Like one of the hallmarks of what I stand for as the Republican Party chairman is freedom of speech … To be clear, this is not banning any books. I believe in free speech, I believe in the First Amendment.

“The question here is – should taxpayer funding be used to buy books and put them in the children’s section with material that contains sexually explicit material that is definitely inappropriate for children to be viewing?”

The ALGOP chairman has also been critical of the American Library Association for pushing this kind of material across the country.

“Literally the head of the American Library Association is an open Marxist who has said she wants to turn libraries, our local libraries, into places of queerness and Marxism instead of democracy,” he said. “For me that’s incredibly concerning. Marxism goes directly against everything that America stands for.”

Wahl said conservatives need to be vigilant about protecting children against these kinds of pressures from the left.

“I think it’s important for us as a society and a culture to realize this, there is an agenda to wokify and indoctrinate our children with socialist and Marxist views,” he said. “Whether that’s the education system, our libraries, we see it in other parts of the media. Most of the people here are not as open and honest about it. We have the smoking gun with the library association, where the director has literally said they want to make libraries a place of Marxism.

“This agenda is far bigger than that. This socialist idea, we need to oppose it and we need to know what’s going on so we know what we’re fighting.”
