ALGOP sets qualifying for Alabama House special elections

The ALGOP has announced that the qualifying process for two Alabama House Special Elections will open Monday at 8:30 a.m. and close July 25 5 p.m.

House District 16 and House District 55’s House seats have been vacated by former Reps. Kyle South and Fred Plump.

South stepped down to become president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.

Plump resigned after being indicted on federal wire fraud conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges.

District 16 includes areas of Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, and Fayette Counties.

District 55 is in Jefferson County.

The special election primary is Sept. 26. If a run-off election is needed, it will be Oct. 24. The special election is Jan. 9.
