ALGOP chair says more minorities are voting Republican

The chairman of the Alabama Republican Party said his party is attracting more minority voters because they are turned off by the radical agenda of the Democratic Party.

ALGOP Chairman John Wahl said on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program,” that minority voters aren’t happy with “woke policies” being pushed by Democrats.

“It’s already starting to happen, we’re seeing the shift,” Wahl said. “This last election cycle, the Republican Party picked up 50 seats across the state in already very red Alabama. And most of those came from minority areas … It was a message of protecting children from woke policies, school choice, making sure their children have equal access to a good education.”

Wahl said many minority communities in the state believe in true conservative values.

“The minority communities around Alabama, a lot of them are very faith based, they revolve around their church, their local community,” he said, “and rural Alabama minorities really share the values with the Republican Party more than the Democratic Party.”

The party leader also pointed to some internal polling that asked voters how important an is to “protect children from woke policies.”

“When you change to that wording it went to number one,” he said. “Number one among Republicans, number one among independents, and it was the third-most important issue to Democrats, which was really incredible. But what I found most fascinating is with minorities. Black voters across the state of Alabama, it was within the margin of error for the most important issue for black voters, and that’s protecting children from woke policies.”

Wahl said he’s working hard to make sure the ALGOP is doing enough outreach minority voters in the Yellowhammer State.

“It’s one of my top priorities,” he said. “It may not be in this election cycle, it may be in the future, but we’re seeing shifts in these areas in Alabama … when we look at some of these rural counties, we’re getting 15-20% of the Black vote.”
