The Alabama Farmers Federation has endorsed Fayette County Commissioner Brad Cox for the vacant House District 16 seat ahead of the Oct. 24 special election. Former Rep. Kyle South stepped down in June to assume the role of president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.
The district covers all of Fayette County and parts of Tuscaloosa and Jefferson counties.
“Brad has a proven track record of success in public service,” said Joe Roberts, Fayette County Farmers Federation president. “His experience in banking and education plus his service on the Fayette County Commission make him uniquely qualified to serve in the state Legislature.”

A farmer himself, Cox is a business development officer with Alabama One Credit Union and taught agriculture for six years in the Fayette County School System. He worked for three years as an area director for the Alabama Farmers Federation covering west Alabama.
“I have enjoyed serving the people of Fayette County, and I look forward to extending my public service into Tuscaloosa and Jefferson counties as well,” Cox said. “I will work hard to represent the conservative values of this district and the hard-working people who live and work here.”

Cox has served on the Fayette County Commission since his appointment by Gov. Kay Ivey in September 2021. He was unopposed in winning a full term to the commission. Cox and his wife, Anna, have one son and are in the process of adopting a second child. They are members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he serves as pastor.
“Brad Cox knows the needs of the farmers and the people of this district,” said Dr. Stevan Parsons, Jefferson County Farmers Federation president. “He has a strong work ethic and will work hard to see to it that we are well represented in the Legislature.”
The Alabama Farmers Federation is the state’s largest farm organization with more than 350,000 members. It uses a true grassroots approach to select candidates, relying on FarmPAC recommendations from county Federation boards for local elections.
“Brad Cox is familiar with the needs of the people of west Alabama and will work hard to ensure we are represented well in the Alabama Legislature,” said Jim Lavender, Tuscaloosa County Farmers Federation president. “We are confident in his abilities and his leadership.”
