Ainsworth: ‘Too many among us are not taking the coronavirus threat seriously’

In a video released Tuesday morning, Alabama Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth urged the people of the state to get serious about their roles in flattening the curve of the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

“I’m asking all Alabamians to follow the recommendations from the CDC during this COVID-19 pandemic,” Ainsworth stressed. “Too many among us are not taking the coronavirus threat seriously, and by doing that, you endanger yourself and everyone know and love.”

“If we take necessary precautions over the next two to three weeks, lives will be saved,” he advised. “But it will take all of us to make certain sacrifices.”

Ainsworth then outlined some precautions all Alabamians should take.

He said, “Practice social distancing, which means stay away from restaurants, bars, and avoiding visits from friends and extended family. Work from home if your job allows. Keep your children home if possible. And avoid playdates and other social activities. … Practice frequent hand-washing, carry hand sanitizer and, most importantly, use simple common sense.”

“The best way to stop the spread of this virus is to isolate yourself as if your have the virus,” Ainsworth added.

“Alabamians have always shown courage in a crisis. So at this critical time, the best way for all of us to stand tall together is for all of us to stay apart,” the lieutenant governor concluded. “May God bless and protect each of you, and may God bless Alabama.”
