While gasoline prices have fallen 14 cents per gallon since last week, and 65 cents lower than a month ago, they are still 93 cents higher than a year ago.
The Biden administration has been taking the opportunity of higher gas prices to promote the use of more green energy and electric vehicles (EV). However, some Republicans have pushed back against that idea, arguing instead for more production of fossil fuels.
This week on WVNN’s “The Dale Jackson Show,” U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) blasted President Joe Biden’s energy policies.
“I think right now we have got to focus on trying to get gas prices down,” Aderholt said, “and we have got to focus on trying to get ahold of the inflation numbers that we’re seeing to try and bring those down. The economy that we are seeing right now is the worst that we have seen in a decade, and we are very concerned about what is going on.”
The congressman argued that Biden and the Democrats would rather gas prices remain high so they could push more green energy alternatives.
“Unfortunately, I don’t think Biden and the Democrats have really been sincere in really trying to bring down the gas prices,” he said, “and I think that’s, you know, and I hate to say it, but I think it’s intentional because most of the Democrats, and there may be, I know there’s some out there that want to see gas prices come down, but most of them I think really don’t really care because they want to see get away from fossil fuels and they want to go toward electric cars.”
While he admitted he did not have a problem with EVs, Aderholt said most Alabamians were still reliant on gasoline.
“People in Alabama and all parts of the country have to depend on fuel to go to work and to do their job,” he argued, “and if you’ve got plenty of money and you can just go out and buy an electric car that’s great, but for the average American, and certainly for the average Alabamian, you don’t just go out and say, ‘Oh, I think I’ll just get rid of my car today and we’ll go electric.’”
He once again emphasized that Biden could take actions to help bring down the cost of fuel but instead had different motivations.
“I really think the Biden administration is not doing all they can to bring down the gas prices,” he said, “because secretly they want to see people not burn gas, and so that’s really what it all goes back to.”
