Ad libbing goes hilariously wrong on live local Alabama newscast

When news anchors for Birmingham’s CBS affiliate started playfully ad libbing a transition during a recent newscast, everything started off fine. But then things suddenly got accidentally — and hilariously — off track.

Gina Redmond: Have you ever dressed your dog up?

Stephen Hauck: I honestly have not.

Gina Redmond: Well, you’ve got a big dog, that’s probably why.

Stephen Hauck: She’s larger.

All of that seems just about right for a local newscast. But when it was time to loop in Meteorologist Mark Prater, things went off the rails. We resume the transcript with Ms. Redmond making a perfectly innocent segue referencing what we’re assuming must be Prater’s miniature dachshund…

Gina Redmond: Mark has a little weiner. Have you ever dressed the weiner up?

Mark Prater: (laughing hysterically) I do… ummm… he’s…

Gina Redmond: (confused) What are you doing?

Mark Prater: …He’s actually… I had a bug there for a second…

(the whole crew is laughing at this point)

Gina Redmond: (laughing, but still not getting it) I thought something happened!

Stephen Hauck: (either not getting it, or taking it next-level, like a pro) What have you dressed him in, Mark? C’mon, be honest.

Gina Redmond: Mark?

Mark Prater: Ummm… Long johns?

Gina Redmond: (still not getting it) No, really?!

Stephen Hauck: (either STILL not getting it, or really taking it next-level) That’s adorable, you’d win!
