MONTGOMERY, Ala. — For the Alabama business community, the 2015 regular legislative session that ended June 4 saw passage of vital education and job creation bills and the defeat of legislation that may have harmed businesses.

Gov. Robert Bentley this week praised lawmakers for their efforts.

“Despite the failure to find a solution to the General Fund Budget crisis, I am proud of the work and the accomplishments achieved during the 2015 Regular Session,” Bentley said in a statement Tuesday.

Major job-creating measures passed by the Legislature included strengthening education opportunities, passing new incentives to attract and keep businesses, reforming sentencing laws to reduce the prison population, and protecting manufacturers against frivolous lawsuits.

“Alabama’s business community believes that a vibrant economic climate and an educated workforce are the keys to creating and sustaining jobs,” said William J. Canary, president and CEO of the Business Council of Alabama.
