7. CNN wins the night with Trump town hall, garnering 3.3 million viewers and 700,000-plus with ages 25-54 (5 times more than normal). But the network lost in so many other ways with the left and right blasting them. Anderson Cooper blasted his own network for letting it happen. But somehow, after all of this, Kaitlan Collins will get a primetime gig.
6. Alabama Republicans sought to move a bill in the Legislature that would expand education benefits to the families of fallen soldiers and first responders. Democrats pathetically attempt to make a veterans bill about voting and it went nowhere for them.
5. The plans for a new State House keeps moving forward with a 34-0 vote in the State Senate that clears the way for its construction. The bill sets the stage for the State House to be built, owned, and maintained by the Retirement Systems of Alabama.
4. The man who choked an agitated and violent man on a New York subway is expected to turn himself in and be charged with second-degree manslaughter, and that charge could earn him a 15-year jail sentence.
3. Debt-ceiling meeting off as deadline looms, which suggests that the White House is less interested in a deal than they let on, making it clear changes to the Inflation Reduction Act are off the table. Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) says President Joe Biden is dragging his feet and wants, “a default more than they want a deal.”
2. U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s cleanup of his comments referencing “white nationalists” had been pretty good, until he spoke to NBC News’ Julie Tsirkin and said, “I look at a white nationalist as a Trump Republican.” We all know what is going on here, but expect to hear a lot of this.
1. Title 42 is over, it is already very bad as a flood of migrants is freely entering the country, those currently being held will be released and new entrants will be released without court dates. President Joe Biden seems to be uninterested in stopping this disaster he has created.
