7. Labor participation is a major issue with the labor market, with Alabama faring as bad in this as the rest of the nation, and Speaker of the House Nathanial Ledbetter wants to figure out what is going on.
6. The fight to shut down energy production is on in Washington, D.C., and Alabama could suffer if those who want to limit our ability to extract fossil fuels win. Both of Alabama’s U.S. senators are working to stop the government from limiting our ability to fuel our nation.
5. Redistricting is not set in stone yet for Alabama, but a lot of people are looking to make their next political move based on what the fallout might be. The 3-judge panel handling this case will hold a hearing on the proposed maps today.
4. U.S. Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) is under fire and investigation for trying to obstruct an official proceeding and he is making everything worse for him by putting out talking points suggesting the GOP has issues with “the Nazi members of their party.”
3. A man in Decatur threatened the person working to repossess a car and when the cops showed up he did it again and turned the gun toward the police. He is now dead and his family wants answers. Audio shows police telling Stephen Perkins to get on the ground shortly after confronting him, then shooting him, and telling him to drop the gun.
2. 50 illegal “bingo” operators in Alabama will have to shut down because what they are doing is wildly illegal, after Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway changed his position on these clearly illegal businesses. This is a win for the law.
1. A motion to vacate the chair has been filed by U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), as he faces calls for his long-shot expulsion, but it seems unlikely that Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will be going anywhere even with a slim four-seat majority.
