7 Things: Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Hamas); AL’s senators demand support for Americans on the ground; and more …

7. After the Legislature approved a $30 million loan program to help save Birmingham-Southern College, State Treasurer Young Boozer denied the school’s loan request, for an unknown reason, and now other lawmakers are getting involved. Some guy who works at a coffee house is very mad about this, attacking the state treasurer and claiming it is “personal.”

6. After Republicans and short-sighted conservative media figures embraced Robert F. Kennedy Jr., it should come as no surprise that with him in a 3-way race with President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, he helps Biden take a more significant lead. He also came out in favor of reparations Wednesday.

5. Truant kids in Birmingham may get their parents locked up if Mayor Randall Woodfin gets his way. Nothing will actually happen but Chicago has a better idea.

4. As part of a plea deal in an extortion case, admitted murderer Joran van der Sloot acknowledged that he killed Alabama teenager Natalie Halloway after she turned down his sexual advances. Beth Holloway, Natalee Holloway’s mother, says for her the case is over, “Joran van der Sloot is no longer the suspect in my daughter’s murder. He is the killer.”

3. U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) may not be able to get the votes to be Speaker of the House, in fact, he lost support in the second round of votes and round 3 will apparently take place today. There is talk of new candidates for Speaker and a plan to empower the acting Speaker, which does not bode well for Jordan.

2. U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) is not mincing words or acting like a member of “The Squad,” she is unequivocally calling for support for Israel as the country is under attack by Islamic radicals. Britt was part of a press conference when she said, “We must stand shoulder to shoulder with Israel as they eradicate Hamas terrorists.” Britt and Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) also signed on to a letter demanding President Joe Biden prioritize rescuing American hostages.

1. U.S. Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) are still promoting the false narrative blood libel that Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza. President Joe Biden, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) remain silent (again) even as a mob storms the U.S. Capitol. Biden rambled about Hamas needing to be a better shot because they are the “team” that actually hit near the hospital.
