7 Things: Doug Jones thinks Sloppy Joe has bungled this scandal; good seats for Alabama congressmen; and more …

7. Rocket at the entry point of the Tennessee/Alabama line has to go

  • You see it every time you drive on I-65 to or from Alabama and now it looks like the rocket standing outside the now-closed welcome center is going to come down one way or the other.
  • The Saturn 1B rocket is 168 feet high and 22 feet around, it has stood at that exit for almost 44 years. It was donated to the welcome center by the Space & Rocket Center in 1979 and there is no signal that it will be replaced.

6. Alabama basketball player didn’t pull the trigger but he might as well have

  • A new wrinkle has emerged in the murder case of a 25-year-old mother. Darius Miles has been charged with murder and now it has been revealed that he did not actually pull the trigger but he did provide the handgun right before the shooting. That is the same thing as pulling the trigger and he is looking at a capital murder charge.
  • ESPN suggested Alabama’s permitless carry law that has been in place for less than 3 weeks played a role in this, but sane people would point out that this young person seemed disinterested in the law when handing his friend a handgun to shoot at someone.

5. Gender-neutral bathrooms at Alabama university

  • No one asked for it, but here THEY come. The University of Montevallo is now announcing that it will be transitioning to gender-neutral bathrooms, the first step will be transitioning all single-occupancy bathrooms.
  • Then “All the signage will be updated and will be gender neutral, and that is not just in the residence halls, but in the academic buildings as well,” according to John Denson, director of Housing and Student Life. If a student wants to be singled out, and live as normal people have forever, they can request separate single-sex accommodations.

4. White people criticizing non-whites? That could be illegal

  • One of Texas’ Democrat U.S. representatives, Shelia Jackson Lee, has decided a way to tackle the scourge of white supremacy by seeking to pass a law that would make it illegal to post “material advancing white supremacy, white supremacist ideology, antagonism based on “replacement theory,” or hate speech that vilifies or is otherwise directed against any non-white person or group.”
  • The broad language is the problem, and the point, is how often do we hear that random things are white supremacy? A quick Google search will tell you that correctly done math, speaking correctly, being polite, expecting employees to arrive on time, and under this law, criticism of non-whites will soon be deemed as white supremacy. Zero Democrat lawmakers have spoken out against this.

3. Wes Allen follows through on his promise to pull Alabama from the multi-state voter identification agreement

  • When Secretary of State Wes Allen was running for office, he promised that he would remove the state of Alabama from Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), and he has done so. This multi-state group says they maintain accurate voter rolls by analyzing shared data that, before Monday, Alabama and 32 other states and the District of Columbia participated in.
  • The fear, of some, is that the group was funded by George Soros and would be used for a nefarious purpose. But as of today, there is very little evidence of any misuse of data or malfeasance. Nonetheless, Secretary Allen has removed the state from the group, as he promised.

2. Alabama congressmen pick up really good committee assignments

  • Freshman U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) already secured an appointment to the desirous House Armed Services Committee, now he has learned he has landed a spot on the Homeland Security Committee as well. The HSC oversees the security of the homeland and that includes, obviously, border security which is a major issue that has remained unsolved for decades.
  • U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) got a pretty sweet assignment as well when he was named to chair the Labor, Health and Human Services & Education Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee. What this means is Aderholt will have a major say in appropriations that affect the largest budgetary concerns outside of defense spending.

1. Former U.S. senator wants his friend, President Biden, to get his act together

  • The calls for the White House to quit stonewalling and bumbling their response to the growing scandal involving President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents are coming from inside the house. Former Alabama U.S. Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) was asked what he would tell those at the White House: “‘Gosh, come on y’all. You’ve got to do a better job when sh*t like this happens.’ That’s exactly what I would say.”
  • But wait … there’s more … The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that the Department of Justice declined to send in the FBI to find documents they suspected were at Joe Biden’s beach house/Hunter Biden’s crack house and instead allowed Biden’s lawyers and aides, some without security clearances, to track the documents down as long as they pinky promised to turn them over. Total embarrassment.
