#3 – Del Marsh

3_squareSen. Del Marsh | President Pro Tem of the Alabama Senate

Marsh pulled one of the all-time power moves in 2013 with the Alabama Accountability Act. The residual effect is that his power has been palpable on the 7th floor of the State House this year.

Once he’s made up his mind on an issue, there’s no amount of political pressure, no amount of threats, no amount of resources you can bring to bear against him that will change his mind.

As Pro Tem, Marsh selects the Chairman of every Senate committee and also has a designee who sits on every committee. He’s proven he’s not afraid to use that power to his advantage.

Marsh was finance director for the Alabama Republican Party and oversaw its most successful fundraising effort ever in 2010. He’s maintained that ability to raise money hand over fist.

He is also one of the legislature’s most successful private businessmen, which gives him a great handle on the challenges facing the state’s business community.

Marsh may have the toughest job in Alabama politics trying to manage the oversized personalities on the 7th floor where every vote counts. In spite of that, his ability to execute his vision has never been greater than it is right now.
