Mobile couple, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, still missing as Texas flood death toll tops 100

A Mobile couple remains missing after devastating flash floods swept through central Texas over the Fourth of July weekend, as the death toll from the disaster surpasses 100.

Eddie Santana Sr., 69, and his wife, Ileana Santana, 66, were visiting family at a cabin along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County when rising floodwaters tore through the area early Friday morning. The couple was staying with their oldest son, Eddie Santana Jr., 39, his wife Camille, 38, and their 5-year-old daughter, Mila Rosa, when the river surged into the cabin, sweeping it off its foundation and into the water.

Eddie Jr. managed to escape through a hole in the roof and clung to debris for nearly four hours before being rescued. He was hospitalized and discharged two days later. Family members, including Eddie Jr.’s brother Michael, have joined search teams in Texas to assist in the ongoing effort to locate the missing family members.

Friends and supporters have organized a fundraiser to help the Santana family as they continue the search and recover from the tragedy.

The flooding, fueled by heavy overnight rain, caused the Guadalupe River to rise more than 20 feet in just two hours, inundating homes, cabins, and camps along its banks. Dozens of people remain missing statewide as crews continue recovery operations.

Donations to support the Santana family can be made through their official fundraising page.
