Congressman Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) recognized George Washington Carver’s “heroic, lasting legacy of scientific advancement and personal achievement made in the face of countless racist hurdles he had to overcome” on Tuesday during a speech from the House Floor.

Brooks’ speech comes a little less than a month before the George Washington Carver historic marker unveiling at former Carver School in Decatur, Alabama, on January 5, 2020.

“[R]enowned Alabama educator, artist and botanist George Washington Carver, like many Americans, overcame numerous obstacles to achieve greatness,” Brooks stated. “Carver’s contributions to science and agriculture made a huge impact that is still felt across the globe today.”

Brooks went on to praise many of Carver’s achievements, including his dedication to school, Carver’s time in college, his mentorship at the Tuskegee Institute’s agriculture school in Alabama and his work with agriculture and crops.

“George Washington Carver left a lasting legacy on Alabama schools, and Alabama is proud to have been the home of this renowned scientific leader,” Brooks added as he closed his speech.
