On Saturday, Iran launched hundreds of unmanned suicide drones and missiles against the state of Israel. Tehran attacked in retaliation to an attack on a facility in Damascus, Syria killing a top Iranian general. Iran has supported Hamas in its war against Israel and according to intelligence reports that general helped plan the October 7 attacks on Israel.

U.S. Navy vessels moved closer to Israel to help intercept those attacking missiles and drones. The U.S. helped Israel intercept and destroy most of the attacking devices.

On Sunday, Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Saks), who Chairs the House Armed Services Committee, said that the U.S. should support Israel.

“This weekend, U.S. servicemembers stood shoulder to shoulder with Israel to help defend our partner against Iran’s attack,” Chairman Rogers said in a statement. “Their actions prevented innocent bloodshed. I am grateful for their leadership. Make no mistake, President Biden’s strategy of appeasing Iran is a failure. Iran and their terrorist proxies have turned the Middle East into a tinderbox. Iran’s decision to launch hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel needs to be met with consequences and international condemnation. President Biden must make it clear that the United States unequivocally stands with Israel.”

Biden is now dealing with the possibility that all out war in the Middle East is a serious possibility. Biden is trying to convince Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to retaliate to the attack. Biden has reportedly told Netanyahu that the U.S. would not participate in any offensive operations against Iran. Biden was already receiving criticism from even some in his own party in the wake of widespread attacks last year on Israel.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said on NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday, “We don’t seek an escalation. We don’t seek a wider war in the region.”
