U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) is lauding President-Elect Donald Trump’s choices for a couple of key national security positions in his second administration.

Trump announced the appointment of U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) as United States ambassador to the United Nations Monday, telling the New York Post that she is “incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter.”

Rogers, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, said it was an “excellent” choice.

“Rep. Elise Stefanik is an excellent choice to represent the interests of our nation at the U.N. Rep. Stefanik is a proven leader and who has never hesitated to go to bat for President Trump,” Rogers said. “As a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Stefanik has worked tirelessly to boost U.S. national security and conduct robust oversight of the Department of Defense. Rep. Stefanik is a fighter who will promote President Trump’s America First priorities and counter the malign influence of our adversaries at the U.N. I am proud to support my dear friend, Rep. Elise Stefanik, as President Trump’s Ambassador to the U.N.”

Tuesday, Trump added to his upcoming national security team by announcing the appointment of U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.) as National Security Advisor. Waltz is a is a combat-decorated Green Beret who served in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa.

Rogers reacted to the choice, saying national security will be in good hands with Waltz.

“I am thrilled that President Trump has chosen Rep. Mike Waltz to serve as his National Security Adviser, Rogers said. “There is no one more capable or qualified for this crucial role. As a Green Beret, Rep. Waltz bravely fought to defend our nation. As a leader on the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Waltz has continued to work around the clock to bolster U.S. national security. Our national security is in good hands with Rep. Waltz at the helm.”
