U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) is defending his decision to vote in favor of censuring U.S. Rep. AL Green (D-Texas) for his “antics” during President Donald Trump address to Congress Tuesday. The final vote was 224-198, with 10 Democrats joining all Republicans in approving the resolution.
Rogers joined every Republican member of the congressional delegation in voting for the censure. U.S Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) voted against the measure, while U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures (D-Mobile) voted “present.”
“Al Green deliberately violated House rules on decorum and continued this disruptive behavior after multiple warnings,” Rogers said. “I supported this measure because his antics were a shameful display, absolutely deserving of censure.”

Trump also commented on Green’s actions to Fox News, saying Green “should be forced to pass an IQ test because he is a low IQ individual, and we don’t need low IQ individuals in Congress.”
Decorum broke down during the censure proceedings when several Democrats surrounded Green and starting singing “We Shall Overcome.” Some Republicans reacted by screaming “Order, Order!” The commotion caused Speaker Mike Johnson to call an early recess.
