The Mayors of Auburn and Tuscaloosa are once again taking part in a friendly annual wager for the upcoming Iron Bowl that will benefit local charities.

The two elected officials, Mayor Walt Maddox and Ron Anders,  have agreed that if the Crimson Tide wins, Anders will make a $100 donation to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative. If the Tigers come out on top, Mayor Maddox will make a $100 donation to the Mercy Medical Ministry and Clinic.

Both are looking forward to the big game.

“Mayor Anders and I are happy to make a friendly wager on the Iron Bowl because it makes the outcome of the game a win-win for Tuscaloosa and Auburn,” said Maddox. “The Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative and the Mercy Medical Ministry and Clinic are important community causes, and we’re glad to do our part to recognize them. Best of luck to Mayor Anders, and Roll Tide!”

“Each year, I look forward to this tradition that raises awareness about organizations doing amazing work,” Anders said. “Regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s game, this friendly competition is a win-win for both of our communities. I wish Mayor Maddox luck, and War Eagle!”

Maddox and former Auburn Mayor Bill Ham made the first friendly wager in 2005. Since then, Auburn has won the Iron Bowl seven times, and Alabama has won 12 times.

The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers face off at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa this Saturday.
