Mayor Woodfin on Biden: ‘It is time to stand by him and support his agenda’

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said he’s going to continue to support President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee despite concerns by some in his party about the president’s age and fitness for office.

Woodfin joined 200 Democratic mayors from across the country Tuesday night in a call with the president.

“We’re going to make sure that we focus on the things that affect people in my city in Wilmington, Delaware, my hometown, as well as yours,” Biden said on the call.

Some Democratic politicians have come out in recent days calling publicly for Biden to withdraw from the presidential race because of his poor performance during the last debate.

Woodfin released a statement after the call to reaffirm his support for Biden on the ticket.

“I participated in the president’s call this week with mayors,” Woodfin said. “He was steadfast in his commitment to lead our nation for the next four years. The people selected President Biden as our nominee, not politicos and mega donors. It is time to stand by him and support his agenda to grow our middle class, make healthcare more accessible and affordable, and revitalize our cities.”

Other Democratic mayors on the call also showed their support, including Mayor Andre Dickens of Atlanta.
